How to Handle Multiple Job Offers

If you’re in demand and getting more than one offer on the table, it's a good problem to have. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to get this right early doors, because the wrong role or company can set you back.

When you first started listening to job opportunities from hiring managers, recruiters, or business owners, you had a motivator. So ask yourself: What was it?

  • Was it signing off on your own work as an engineer and using your RPEQ status?

  • Was it flexibility around work hours so you can do school drop-off and pick-up?

  • Was it career growth and clear pathways?

Once you identify that motivator, weigh up each offer against it. Don’t just take the easy option, look at which role actually lines up with what you said you wanted in the first place.

And here’s the kicker: don’t just chase pay and benefits. Unless you’re a mercenary then fair enough, own that.

Look at alignment. Look at the leadership. Look at whether the people running the business are ones you actually want to learn from and work under. If they’re overselling too much? That’s a red flag.

I could write a list as long as my arm on what to look for, but the fundamentals are this:

  • Be clear on your motivator

  • Match it against the offers

  • Don’t be swayed by surface-level perks
